Homey, low key hole in the wall in downtown Sausalito, but not at all touristy. Sartaj India Cafe has been making my tummy happy for decades. My colleagues in a little startup in Sausalito would break for lunch, and almost all of us would ride the 5 minutes to downtown, and take over the whole restaurant because there were only a few tables. It was delicious, and quite reasonably priced every time. many people get to go food from Sartaj.
Delicious. Really good chole batura.
Great restaurant.. we liked their veg thali and aloo paratha.. it is a small place... depending on the time of the day.. it could be crowded. But worth wait and eat there.. authentic Punjabi style food.. nice hospitality by the owners..my wife loved the food 😊
I sent my friends to this place with my warmest recommendations. I go to this restaurant often. I get very good feedback from my friends. The the food there is yummy and the crew is very friendly and cooperative. Every time we go to this place we enjoy a pleasant time. highly recommended.
The food was very good and tasty. The place is cozy. The owners though (the lady and especially the gentleman) were not friendly at all. We felt unwanted!!
Fantastic environment and super welcoming service. The meals were fresh and enchanting. Will surely recommend this restaurant to others. Convenient prices and large portions. Keep up the great work.
If you are in Sausalito this place is a must go for Indian Food Lovers! An authentic north indian food you might not find any where in bay area. Owners are super sweet and every single dish we ordered blown our mind away. You will get a taste or indian dhaba or it might remind you of your really yemmi Moms food. Paratha and Mango lassie was the winner but definately try verities of thali and the chapati is the best I have ever had. Must Must Must Try!!!
Been eating here for nearly 10 years!! My favorite family and my favorite food. 💞
I get to eat here a lot since I work close by. I have to say their customer service is always good and they keep the place well kept at all times. Prices are affordable and they serve big portions.
I ordered three things here. Alex Special Chana Masala Plate, Indian Style Veggie Burrito and Aloo Paratha.Chana masala and Burrito was way below the expectation and the standard taste. It could have more flavor.Aloo paratha was good but this is first ever place I saw that doesn't serve Raita (Yogurt) with Paratha.
Best aloo paratha i have had till now in usa . Very good restaurant for indian food
A meal worth every bite. Thanks Balbir and Basi
Balbir & Basi are like the Aunt & Uncle of anyone who has lived in Sausalito for the past 10+ years. We are grateful for the wonderful, down to earth home that Sartaj represents for us and for the consistently good food
Best dhal anywhere, prepared by friendly people
It’s the most amazing Indian restaurant I have been to! It’s so delicious I had the spicy lamb Vindalu: it was Devine! My friend had the chicken tikka Masala! It was creamy and tasty Highly recommend! The best Indian restaurant in USA!
Amazing food 👌. Everything was so good.
The best Indian food I have ever had. Vegetarian options are spectacular. #6 is my personal favorite. Friendly family owned place. This place is super chill, but everything is made from scratch, so be prepared to wait and relax while your curry simmers slowly. Personally, there is not place I would rather be.
For being the first time I tried Indian food, it was excellent.
Great spot for authentic Indian food. Wish the place was a bit more clean and wish they had naan bread
Lamb korma tahli $13.95 was excellent. The chicken dishes could have been more tender. Chapati that came with the dish was okay, they didn't make naan unfortunately. Mango lassi is also popular and not bad on a warm day. We came after an hour and a half of hiking at around 11.45am and it wasn't crowded. Nice humble place.
This has to be the best lunch deal in town. I very much enjoyed the Tikka Masala and Tandoori Chicken. Spice Level 5 is legit. I look forward to tasting another couple dishes next time. Very friendly people and their service is great.
Fantastic food. Family run. Do not miss!
We like a lot hanging out. Last night we visited this superb restaurant which we didn’t know before. We enjoyed a delightful evening there with first-rate dishes and a professional crew and a great chef. We added this fine restaurant in our list and we shall no doubt go again very soon. We warmly recommend.
I really loved their food. I always get good customer service there. The place is neat and the cashiers are always very welcoming. Keep up the good work.
Amazing food. Reminds of India
Forget the seafront seafood or Italian restaurants with their queues (lines for you Americans out there). This was the best Indian food I’ve had outside of India. We ended up here because there was a 2 hour queue at one of the other places. We’re vegan so needed somewhere vegan friendly so chose here and what a find this was! I would cycle there again just for this place.
This place just reopened with the same owners/chef. They are an amazing couple (Raj and balbir) who make the most delicious home cooked north Indian food. This is definitely in our top 5 places to eat in the bay area and we are so glad it has reopened. Go. Here. Now. The eggs are delicious and do is their aloo paratha.
Love the home cooked Indian food here. Great Aloo Paratha. Great people as well
We came to this restaurant for dinner. This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend. Well, it was very successful. The staff members welcomed us with a smile and we felt excellent. The meal was delicious. We loved this restaurant very much and we shall definitely come back again. we highly recommend this place.
I eat at this restaurant weekly. The food is amazing and well worth the wait. Don’t come here expecting that you will eat quickly, everything is made to order. The vegetarian Matter Paneer plate is my favorite. -addictive.
Cozy space serving up delicious home-style Indian food. Excellent array of vegan options as well. Pictured: veggie "burrito".. heaping amount of food for 8ish dollars
I had an extraordinary time in this place. We loved the wonderful environment and the meals. The waiters were super affable. I am happy we ultimately decided to try this restaurant.
We were in Sausalito on busy weekend and most of other places had long queues and then we found this cozy and small cafe. It truly had authentic indian feel. We had veg plate and those were really good. If you are craving for indian delicacy in near by area this is must visit cafe.
The vegetarian lentil soup is devine! The samosas are heaven!
We weren't Indian food eaters before until we came here and now we're regulars. Fresh tasty homemade food, good portion size and lovely owners who know the locals and grow be communities. Have brought some friends here who know their Indian and they love it too. Please support you local businesses (esp now!).
Comfort food. The food was delicious and freshly prepared. Wish they hadn't run out of kheer(rice pudding) !
I had requested for authentic preparation of Brinjal sabzi and parathas.
As an Indian visiting the States, this place serves awesome home cooked food. The taste was amazing and it was a small, cozy place that served veg as well as non-veg food. Enjoyed eating here. Thanks for the good service.
Delicious fresh homemade Indian food in a cute little space!
Wonderful family who owns it, incredibly delicious food, generous portions, and wildly reasonable prices. Best food in Sausalito.
Delicious Indian food. I would highly recommend it.
Wonderful people! Wonderful food, with layers of flavor! Definitely recommend you try it...
If you are in the area, and like to have authentic, simple and really good North Indian cuisine, do visit Sartaj. It's a relatively small place but the smart seating arrangement makes up for the space. The staff is super helpful and full of love towards their customer (Thanks for the sweets at the end of our lunch). The food you will get here is easily the most authentic Indian food you will get. Loved it!!
I had a delicious vegan thali and loved the wide selection of unsweetened chai (choose your milk and add your own sugar!). The owners were welcoming and smiled. Can’t wait to come back!
Food is average, not exactly authentic Indian taste. Wait time can be 15-30 min
Nice place and good service. Ample of Indian dishes and price is really right. This place is good for family and is not an upscale place. It's a good restaurant and you can enjoy every meal. Goid for kids. This place does provide beer and tea as well. Parking area is low and there is not much for disabled parking. This area is near the beach and one can easily commute to it.
Authentic north indian food - has good vegetarian options - thaali was very good
I tried this place already with my friend and I am obsessed since then. I liked the fantastic ambience and fresh food and drinks. Keep it up.
A friend suggested this place. I am glad I drove through those scissors to find this place. Had amazing food, kinda chill atmosphere. The mango lassi was amazing. And to top it all, the owner was the most warm and welcoming person I've met in my life. Kudos to him and the restaurant.
Best indian paratha in usa. Must have... It's home made mom style paratha
